Who does the project benefit? Professional growth Department, the College, the University Students: UG / G How will the benefit realize? Why do you need Sabbatical Leave time? Be very clear about the need beyond reassigned time! Need to travel? Need to access archival libraries? Present a clear chronogram of time utilization that requires to be off your teaching and services duties Do you have a time-sensitive invitation? Do you have a time-sensitive publication schedule? Do you have a time-sensitive grant writing schedule? Do you have a book contract? Do you have an /letter from publisher showing interest?

12 What to expect? 2016-17 – 16 Candidates Requesting 22 Semesters
14 applicants received sabbatical leave for a total of 20 semesters – 22 Candidates Requesting 31 Semesters 12 applicants received sabbatical leave for a total of 18 semesters Before winter recess, you will receive a letter showing you overall ranking (combined merit and longevity) in this year’s pool The Senate overall ranking is provided to the Provost’s Office along with the application materials. Provost’s Office reviews all Senate-ranked candidates. By February 1, all applicants will receive a letter from the Provost’s Office indicating whether their sabbatical has been granted or not.

13 Senate Committee Review
Is the significance of the project established?   Does the presentation show the reader how the goals will be accomplished? What is the likelihood that the project will be completed or nearly completed on schedule? Does the applicant have the skills and background to undertake the project or a plan to acquire these before the leave? Is the purpose of the project communicated clearly to non-specialists? To what degree is the sabbatical leave crucial to the completion of the project?  Are the benefits of the proposed leave for the faculty member and for the University clearly articulated?

15 Sabbatical Leave Report
Every faculty member who is awarded a sabbatical leave is required to submit a written report to the Provost via his or her academic dean, specifying what was accomplished during the leave. The dean will send the report to the Provost, who will send a letter of acknowledgement with a copy to the dean. The report must be included in future sabbatical leave applications.
