1 Introduction to Instructional Technologies
Technology And Nursing Professional Development Pamphlet in front of you. 3 Topics regarding the use of Instructional Technology in Nursing Professional Development Computer-Assisted Performance-Based Learning Programs Commercial Learning Management Systems Human Patient Simulation Carol Jean Luppi, RN EDUC E- 102 Introduction to Instructional Technologies

2 Computer-Assisted Performance-Based Programs New Software Training
Many new computer systems being introduced into healthcare systems. Walks the learner through the use of the software. With or without audio.

3 Computer-Assisted Performance-Based Programs New Technology
Constant flow of new technology being introduced into healthcare. CBT one element of new product training.

4 Computer-Assisted Performance-Based Programs Computer-Based Simulation
Beyond software and hardware training. Simulate a patient care situation. Choose scenario. Enter the appropriate interventions.

5 Learning Management Systems
Computer-based method of electronically tracking and providing structured learning and testing activities. Archive the successful completion of each program. Massive amount of annual competency validation mandated by regulatory agencies. There are commercial products available that have content that fulfills all these requirements, keeps track of completion, and provides a variety of reports.

6 Human Patient Simulation
Most exciting of instructional technology is:

7 Using these type of mannequins and computer hardware

8 And this computer software
And this computer software We are able to simulate patient care scenarios. We can manipulate the mannequins BP Airway Breathing

9 Critical Event Management with Debriefing
Help me, I’m having chest pain. Synopsis of the patient situation and then asked to perform based up their observations. Mannequin talks to them and there can be cohorts in the room to help suspend disbelief. After the scenario is completed, the group then enters into a debriefing session where their performance is discussed. This can be used for evaluations or reflective learning opportunities.

10 Task Training The simulators can also be used for individual task training such as Physical assessment Intubation IV placement

11 Human Simulation Training
Allows practice with no patient harm. Most exciting benefit of this instructional technology is that learning can occur without patient harm.
