16 In-Class Assignments = 50 Online Quizzes = 25 Total points = 475
MAKING THE GRADE  Course Activities 4 Exams* (100 points each) = 400 In-Class Assignments = 50 Online Quizzes = 25 Total points = 475 *Final exam will replace lowest grade if you take all 4 exams.

17 Making the grade Excessive Absence Penalty: Any student with six (6) or more unexcused absences will lose 25 points from their final point total in the class.

18 Grade Determination Scale
MAKING THE GRADE Grade Determination Scale A (425 to 475 points) B (378 to 424 points) C (330 to 377 points) D ( points) F (0 to 282 points)

19 MAKING THE GRADE Fairness People differ on what they believe is fair. The concept of fairness that I will apply in this class is not based on equal outcomes for each student or the relative extent to which each student “needs” a particular grade. Instead, it is based on merit (i.e. each student’s performance). Grades are based on your individual performance rather than effort, personality, potential, or need. No student’s final grade will be increased for any reason other than calculation error. Please do not ask for extra credit or a higher grade at the END of the semester.

20 Make-up exams & final exam
Unless you have a documented and approved excused reason, take ALL exams. Comprehensive final exam is optional unless you have missed an exam. * Final exam time is based on MSU’s exam schedule.

21 Attendance in this Class
Attendance will be taken formally starting January 18. Plan ahead for…traffic, lack of parking, bad weather, and other reasons that are not on the University’s list of approved reasons to miss class.

22 Attendance YOU’LL BE COUNTED ABSENT IF YOU MISS CLASS, IF YOU ARE LATE, OR IF YOU LEAVE CLASS EARLY FOR AN UNEXCUSED REASON. EXCEPTION: EACH PERSON WILL GET ONE FREE PASS ON A LATE ARRIVAL. IF YOU ARE ABSENT OR LATE (WITHOUT A DOCUMENTED EXCUSED REASON) AND MISS AN IN-CLASS ASSIGNMENT, YOU WILL LOSE THE POINTS ON THAT ASSIGNMENT. NO EXCEPTIONS.

23 EXCUSED ABSENCE FORM IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO MISS CLASS AND BELIEVE IT IS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE, FILL OUT AND SUBMIT THE EXCUSED ABSENCE FORM WITH DOCUMENTATION PRIOR TO THE CLASS YOU’RE MISSING. IF YOU MISS A CLASS AND BELIEVE IT IS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE, COMPLETE THE EXCUSED ABSENCE FORM AND SUBMIT WITH DOCUMENTATION AT SOME POINT PRIOR TO THE NEXT CLASS MEETING. EXCUSED ABSENCE FORM COPY IS ATTACHED TO YOUR SYLLABUS AND WILL BE POSTED ON THE WEBSITE.
