Data Representation – Instructions
Program instructions and data are stored by the computer in binary in the same place. When computer is instructed to run a program it is directed it to the start address for these data and instructions The CPU fetches the first instruction from this start location and decodes it to find out what to do next – the program counter is updated to point at the next memory location for the next instruction Program instruction has two parts – the instruction part (OPERATOR) and the data part (OPERAND) For example 1 1 1 OPERATOR ADD to the accumulator OPERAND Contents of memory location 1101
