3 Deciding Your Goal • Artistic- Do you have any artistic goals? Do you have/need any training to achieve them? • Attitude- Is any aspect of your mindset holding you back? Are any personal behaviors upsetting to you? • Education -Is there any specific knowledge that you want to acquire? What information and skill will you need to achieve other goals? • Personal- What hobby do you enjoy or want to enjoy? You should ensure that some time is reserved for personal satisfaction! • Social- Do you have any social ambitions? • Physical- Are there any athletic goals that you want to achieve, or do you want good health deep into old age? What steps will you choose to achieve this? • Career- What career are you seeking? • Family- How does you want to be seen by members of your immediate family? • Financial- How much do you want to earn and by what career stage?

4 SPECIFIC AND CLEAR WHAT IS YOUR GOAL? ACADEMIC CAREER PERSONAL
SHORT TERM LONG TERM SPECIFIC AND CLEAR

5 Here is a practical example, starting with a typical, but not especially SMART, goal:
I will do better on my report card in the next marking period. Here is a way to make it SMARTer: In the next marking period, I will get at least a C on all my math tests, and at least a B on most of my quizzes and homework assignments. But it's not SMART yet because it has no action plan or benchmarks. Here is a pretty SMART goal: In the next marking period, I will take careful notes and review them at least two days before tests and quizzes so that I can ask the teacher questions about what I don't understand. I will do my math homework before I do things with friends, and when I hand it in, I will ask the teacher about anything I am not sure about. When I get anything wrong, I will make sure to ask the teacher, or one of my classmates how they got the right answer.

6 MEASURABLE HOW WILL YOU MEASURE THIS GOAL?
Establish criteria for how a goal is to be achieved. Measurable does not refer to a timeline; it means determining a way to measure your success in completing the short term or long-range goal. MEASURABLE

7 ATTAINABLE AND REALISTIC
How will you attain this goal? Be proactive in taking action that will result in reaching the desired goal. ATTAINABLE AND REALISTIC

8 RELATED TO ACHIEVEMENT
How will you know that you have achieved this goal? Strive for attainable goals, considering the resources and constraints relative to the situation. RELATED TO ACHIEVEMENT

9 TIMELY What is the realistic time frame to reach this goal?
Allow reasonable time to complete each goal, but not so much time you lose focus or motivation. TIMELY

10 SMART Goal Planning Form: Specific – WHO? WHAT? Measurement/Assessment – HOW? Attainable/Achieve – REASONABLE? Relevant – EXPECTED RESULT? By Time – WHEN?
