Who? Students entering 11th-12th grades in the 2014-2015 academic year
Students who identify as interested in science and/or math Students who successfully complete and submit the application to a teacher or coordinator Can accept up to 18 students

2013 Zombie Campers and Staff

Where? Camp takes place on the campus of Fontbonne University in Clayton Buses transport students from and back to HCentral and HHigh Students arrange their own transportation to and from HSD schools

When? July 21-25, 2014 Camp meets 9am – 3pm daily
Buses will pick up 7:45-8:00 (ish?) and drop off around 4pm

What? Activities in STEM: Epidemiology – transmission of disease
Computer Modeling – tracking an outbreak Calculus (light, only algebra required) – how to beat the system Ecology – vectors, predators and prey Microbiology – growing bacteria Chemistry/Physics – composition and movement of blood and bodily fluids Technology – programming, GPS Science Skills – observations, predictions, hypotheses Anatomy – brain structure Pathology – illness, scar tissue, wounds

What else? Composition Practice Zombie Tag (in gym)
Students keep a “zombie journal” Zombie Tag (in gym) Tour of Fontbonne Campus, cafeteria, dorms, etc Emergency preparedness See the CDC’s recommendations for a zombie outbreak (really!) Culminating experience: Student teams produce a public service infomercial about a zombie outbreak, using what they have learned

How Much? Absolutely, 100% free to HSD and to students and their families Includes Transportation to and from Fontbonne (from HSD schools) Lunch, daily (choice from on-campus dining M-Th, pizza F) Snack, daily T-shirt (see slides 1 and 3 for example) All materials and supplies

How to Sign Up Get the application from a teacher or coordinator
Submit the application and the required essay back to the teacher or coordinator Wait for confirmation from Fontbonne – will be mailed to students’ home addresses in May-June Spaces are limited (18) – some students may not be admitted
