Waterspout By: Loleyi Oluwatomisin
2
What is it A waterspout is an intense columnar vortex (usually appearing as a funnel-shaped cloud) that occurs over a body of water. They are connected to a towering cumuliform cloud or a cumulonimbus cloud. In the common form, it is a non-supercell tornado over water.
3
What causes it While they look and act similarly, what causes them can be different that what causes a land tornado. Waterspouts come in two different types: fair weather, and tornadic waterspouts. As the name suggests, fair weather waterspouts are not severe and are not caused by thunderstorm activity.
4
What prediction tools are used to predict Waterspouts.
They use scales, measurement tools, and raders they use to predict Waterspouts.
5
What are the effects of the waterspouts
”The effects of waterspouts are also quite numerous. In the case of a fair-weather spout, the most common, you have some serious flying spray, and possibly a slight danger to anything brought right into the spout itself. But in the case of a tornadic spout, there are some slightly more dangerous effects. For example, if there is anything nearby that is sucked into the spout, there is the pretty serious danger of flying debris. Also, animals and/or boats can be sucked into the spout”.

Where does waterspouts mostly occur
“A waterspout is an intense columnar vortex (usually appearing as a funnel-shaped cloud) that occurs over a body of water. They are connected to a towering cumuliform cloud or a cumulonimbus cloud”.

How can a person prepare or avoid the effects of this event.
Listen to the radio, particularly NOAA Weather Radio, or to TV newscasts for local news and threats. Also when you are on a boats, and other boat your at your own risk. If you get caught in a waterspout use your beacon to call for help.
8
How is the strength or impact of this event measured.
This gust front was associated with intense thunderstorm outflow that helped to spawn a waterspout that roared ashore in Scituate as an EF-0 tornado. This waterspout, however, developed ahead of the gust front, yet merged with the cloud structure of the outflow, hinting at a type of interaction between the thunderstorm downdraft and the waterspout.
