1 Choosing Wisely

2 Choosing Wisely and General Practice
RNZCGP supportive of the campaign Board elected not to do our own list: So broad 5 would not cut it Resourcing Happy to use international lists …so what have we done….?

3 ePulse See an example Weekly e-newsletter
Sent to approx. 4,500 members College, sector and clinical news See an example

4 Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases
Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine One tip shared per week, and in some cases - where different organisations had similar or identical recommendations – grouped together and the organisations identified. Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy The Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists

5 What information do GPs seek?
Engagement figure describes the percentage of total clicks in the relevant newsletter. E.g.: In one week, the first “antibiotics” tip attracted 10% of the total clicks that occurred in that newsletter.

6 Most clicked tips 1. Avoid prescribing antibiotics for upper respiratory tract infection. 2. Avoid requesting computed tomography (CT) imaging of kidneys, ureters and bladder (KUB) in otherwise healthy emergency department patients(…). The Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases Paediatrics & Child Health Division of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians Australasian College for Emergency Medicine NB: ‘Most clicked tips’ differ from engagement statistics. I.e.: A Choosing Wisely tip that was clicked on often may not perform well in engagement statistics if other news items in the newsletter it appeared in were also very popular/received many clicks. 3. Do not prescribe benzodiazepines or other sedative-hypnotics to older adults as first choice for insomnia, agitation or delirium.
