5 Stress -Stress: The arousal of one’s mind and body in response to demands made upon them -Eustress: Positive stress HOW CAN STRESS BE POSITIVE??? -Distress: Negative stress linked to intense pressure or anxiety that can have severe psychological and physical effects WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSCIAL EFFECTS? -Stressor: An event or situation that produces stress in your life

6 Role Playing Each group will be writing a short skit to act out how a certain stressor impacts them Each skit should show what the stressor is, the causes of the stressor, and consequences I will be collecting one skit from each group Each group should plan out a 4-5 minute skit Everyone in the group needs to help in both preparing and presenting the skit

Typicality: How often the person will typically (on average) experience a certain behavior or mental process Maladaptivity: Extent to which the behavior or mental process impairs someone’s ability to function on a daily basis Emotional Discomfort: Emotional pain the person feels regularly Socially Unacceptable Behaviors: Extent to which a behavior or mental process is accepted by society Culture-bound syndromes: symptoms of an illness based on the culture of an individual
