Aim This presentation aims to help participants understand the benefits from working with third sector charitable organisations and consider some of the challenges associated with two organisations having different approaches to education provision.

Learning Objectives Discuss the benefits and challenges of collaborative working between HEI’s and Charities. Recognise the need for transparent curriculum development that engages with senior figures within the charity, the intended course participants and service users and carers. Consider the importance of innovative approaches to course evaluations that extend beyond module provision into service transformation.

Benefits & Challenges Raising awareness and understanding of the living with and beyond cancer agenda Income generation and raised profile for the University Macmillan offered a University accredited module at two academic levels to workforce Professional diversity of participants Opportunity for further collaboration between the two organisations To ensure future viability and wider appeal to health and social care professionals Developed outside the HEEM funding arrangements Some students found it challenging being able to source examples of good practice As a national programme there were transport issues for some students attending the University campus

Future Developments Longitudinal evaluation of service impact since completing the module Consider a more peripatetic approach to module delivery Explore the addition of the module to the HEEM contract Embed the principles of the recovery package into the management of long term conditions
