3 Bring meaning to every moment
Sign Along Bring meaning to every moment Value Prop, Problem, and Solution Overview Slide Mission Statement: Bring meaning to every moment Problem/Solution Overview (from Assignment 5 Report, summarize/paraphrase this for presentation) The deaf community is generally not the intended audience for live events, making it difficult for them to enjoy and share live experiences with their loved ones. Exacerbating this issue is the shortage of interpreters; there is little incentive to become a certified ASL interpreter because of the high technical barrier to entry. Our product, Sign Along, addresses both these issues by giving interpreters the opportunity to engage in passion projects (interpreting for music concerts) that do not require certification, and by giving deaf users the agency to vote for their favorite interpreter to come onstage and sign for their favorite artists.

4 Tasks Overview There were no changes to the tasks from last week.
For context, we will list out the tasks again.

5 Tasks Overview: Simple
Interpreters want to know what upcoming concerts are coming to the area so that they can combine their love for music with their ASL fluency.

6 Tasks Overview: Medium
Deaf users want to find the best interpreter out of the pool of submissions. Changes:

7 Tasks Overview: Complex
Deaf users want to interact and establish relationships with their favorite interpreters. Update:

8 Revised Interface Design
Using feedback from our low-fi prototypes, we made some changes to our interface. The following are the 3 biggest changes.

9 Design Changes: Voting for Interpreters
Before: People confused tapping Nay and Yay for swiping. Participants also found the swiping up and down motion to be unintuitive. We addressed this by. Swapping to an icon based interface. Follow by tapping star. Nay by X. Yay by Heart. Comment by clicking speach bubble.

10 Design Changes: Practice Mode for Interpreters
Before: Last week, participants were concerned about recording a video submission in one take without any practice. The app contained no lyrics, embedded soundtrack, or any options to create multiple drafts and submit the best one. After: We included the option to practice with the song and lyrics playing on the screen. When the user is ready to record their submission, they can then press record and save the draft when done. .

11 Design Changes: Upcoming Concerts Screen
Before: The upcoming concerts screen only consisted of concerts based on a user’s artist/preferences genres. Participants complained that selecting artist/genre preferences could result in no concert matches, which is irritating. Users also wanted concerts sorted in order of when they were coming up, so they can prioritize when they perform certain actions (voting, submitting videos, etc). After: Show all upcoming concerts in an area. Order them of closest upcoming to furthest in the future. Emphasize the amount of time left for submission, date of concertn, time, location, etc.

12 Revised Task Flow Here is our revised task flow, using our medium-fi prototypes

13 Interpreter: Find Upcoming Concerts
Simple Task: Interpreters find upcoming concerts they are interested in TAP ON Concert Tile to see details Making sure that the title is clear “upcoming event” > “active contest” / use of descriptive langauge to guide user action

14 Interpreter: Upload Submission
Moderate Task: Interpreters apply for concerts they are interested in. Concert detail page ( tap song) TAP ON Concert Tile to see details Event Details Page

15 Deaf User: wants to find the best interpreter
Incentive to access early bird tickets for those who vote

16 Deaf User: interact and establish relationships

17 Prototype Overview

18 Tools Used: Sketch Utilized artboards to design the app’s screens
Targeting iOS development, iPhone 6 Various plugins (e.g. Marvel plugin) Great for rapid iteration Difficult to navigate very large flows Internal patterns library is quite limited Tools: Sketch and Marvel How did the tool help? How did the tool not help?

19 Tools Used: Marvel Linked screens together based on actions tied to button presses Flow for both interpreter and concertgoer personas Supports Sketch integration Allows for rapid iterations UI for searching through screens not ideal Tools: Sketch and Marvel How did the tool help? How did the tool not help?

20 Limitations & Tradeoffs
Animations not advanced (Marvel) To simplify task flow: Tab bar buttons not linked Interpreter profile page omitted Concertgoer profile page omitted Tools: Sketch and Marvel How did the tool help? How did the tool not help?

21 Hard-Coded Features Upcoming concert events
Interpreter bio/profile/video “Log in from Facebook” feature No Wizard of Oz techniques Tools: Sketch and Marvel How did the tool help? How did the tool not help?
