Elected with the president Same qualifications Duties: presides over the Senate & vote in case of a tie. 25th Amendment New president choose Vice-president & is approved by Congress If president unable to execute duties for a short time Vice-President is known as “acting president”.

Carry out Nations Laws In charge of cabinet & executive branch employees Appoints cabinet heads, supreme court & federal judges, & other large government agencies with Senate approval Issues Executive Orders Grants pardons, reprieves, & amnesty.

Cabinet All member call Secretary, except Depart of justice is called the Attorney General. All members appointed by president & approved by Senate Meets when president feels necessary Department heads coordinate department activities. Responsibilities Advise president on issues related to department

Main Staff Members: Chief of Staff -Deputy Chief of Staff Assistant for Domestic Affairs Counsel (lawyer) to the President Appointment secretary Assistant for Public Relations Assistant for Legislative Affairs Press Secretary

EOP Offices: Office of Administration
Provides administration services to all EOP Responds to individuals seeking records under the Freedom of Information Act Office of Management & Budget (OMB) Prepares federal budget & monitors spending Clearest statement of plans & goals for the year.

EOP Offices: National Security Council (NSC)
Helps President coordinate military & foreign policy Deals with factors on safety & security Members: VP, Secretary of State & Defense, chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff National Security Advisor Supervises Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)

advise president about complex economic matters, so he can fulfill his duty as economic leader

Responsible for dealing with certain specialized areas within the government Ex: NASA Government Corporations Charge for services & product, but do not make a profit Ex: Postal Service Regulatory Boards & Commissions Protect Public & enforce/ make industry rules Ex: Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
