1 VO2 MAX

2 VO2 MAX maximum volume of oxygen your body uses in one minute during intense or maximal exercise. measured as milliliters of oxygen used in one minute per kilogram of body weight. combination of how much oxygen-rich blood your heart can pump, and the muscles efficiency in extracting and utilizing the oxygen. Since oxygen is critical to running fast, your VO2 max is the single best measure of running fitness. Aerobic power, aerobic capacity and maximal oxygen uptake are all terms used interchangeably with VO2 max.

3 VO2 max varies greatly between individuals and even between elite athletes that compete in the same sport. The table lists normative data for VO2 max in various population groups

4 VO2max Genetics plays a major role in a persons VO2 max
Heredity can account for up to 25-50% of the variance seen between individuals. The highest ever recorded VO2 max is 94 ml/kg/min in men and 77 ml/kg/min in women. Both were cross- country skiers

5 Lactic Threshold Lactate threshold is defined as the intensity of exercise at which lactate begins to accumulate in the blood at a faster rate than it can be removed. (deals with ATP) This is problematic because as a result, unbuffered acid is added to the blood, a condition that makes you feel like you have to vomit and stop right away. Advantage of a high LT is that you can work at a higher intensity for a longer time before lactate levels become intolerable. measured by having someone either run on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike while increasing the intensity of exercise every three to five minutes until exhaustion. Blood samples taken.

7 Electronic Muscle Stimulator (EMS)
An EMS machine (or Electrical Muscle Stimulator) is essentially an electronic machine with the capacity to contract your muscles via an electrical current passed through your muscle helpful in the initial phase of muscle strengthening. The electrical current may also assist pain relief, like a TENS machine, but pain relief is not it’s main purpose. Electronic muscle stimulation (EMS) may help you to facilitate the strengthening of weak muscles

8 TENS UNIT TENS is an abbreviation of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. Transcutaneous means "across the skin". In simple terms, a tens machine stimulates your nerves via an electrical current through your skin. A TENS machine is an electronic medical device. A TENS machine may assist you in modest short-term pain relief.
