SAECG More than 400,000 sudden cardiac deaths occur each year (US) caused by sustained ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. Coronary heart disease accounts for 80% of Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) in developed countries throughout North America and Europe. Results of clinical studies implicate reentrant mechanisms as the cause for these critical arryhthmias Most result from tachyarrhythmias arising from chronic scaring in the myocardium usually seen in post MI patients with decreased left ventricular function.

Late Potential Diagnosis and Detection
Useful tool in the diagnosis of patients who have one or more of the following symptoms: ischemic heart disease (decreased O2 to the heart tissue) unexplained syncope (blackout or fainting) Useful in pre-operative patient assessment May eliminate possibilities of sustained ventricular tachycardia Useful in providing risk stratefication Patients recovering from myocardial infarction may time increase the chances of cardiac arrythmias as the heart strengthens.

Late Potential Criteria
Suggested Settings High pass filter setting 40 – 250 HZ Average 250 beats... or to 9999 if needed To noise level of .3 µV Correlation threshold set to Very High Interpretation Positive = abnormal Risk goes from low to moderate to high when one, two, three criteria are met Filtered QRS-duration > 120 ms Duration of HFLA > 38 ms RMS voltage in terminal 40 ms < 20 µV

Late Potential Hookup Late Potential: Signal Averaged ECG (SAECG)
Bipolar (X, Y and Z) orthogonal leads are used to measure the sum of the heart’s electrical activity in three-dimensional space throughout the cardiac cycle to indicate the potential for ventricular arrhythmias. Offers flexible selections for filter frequency, target beat count, and acceptable target noise level. Simple user interface and quick analysis of data.
