Bachelor’s in Health Sciences from Quinnipiac University Master’s in Education from Utica College of Syracuse University 13th year teaching – 2 years in NY, 11th year in CMS Middle & HS Math & Science Certified Have taught Math 8, Math I (Algebra), Geometry, 8th grade Science, High School Math Figure Skating Extreme Ice Center

4 Daily Expectations for Math I Students
Enter class with all materials (binder, workbook, calculator, pencil) Copy assignment from board into agenda Place homework & agenda out on corner of desk to be checked Begin warm-up (in Composition Notebook) Grade/go over warm-up & homework Take all notes Participate productively in individual & cooperative work Show all steps to problems in neat & organized manner on classwork, homework, & assessments Keep Math Binder up to date & organized – notes section, classwork, homework, returned tests/quizzes

5 Grading for Math I 70% Formal = Tests/Quizzes/Projects
30% Informal = Homework, Warm-ups, Classwork (some graded for accuracy, some for completion) All grades are weighted based on total points (Tests = 100 pts, Quizzes = 40/50) Homework: Each homework assignment will count as 10 pts Homeworks will be entered in sets of 5, out of 50 points Late or partially completed homework will earn 6 pts instead of 10

6 End of Year Testing! Math I students will take the 7th grade EOG test in Math as well as the End of Course (EOC) test for Math I Students must have a passing year-end average for the class in order to gain 1 high school credit EOC test counts as 20% of students’ final average The grade for this year’s course will show up on the students’ high school transcript, but does not count toward high school GPA

Cell Division Patterns of Heredity DNA producing variation Modern Genetics

Newton’s Laws of Motion Work, Energy Transfer, & Power Momentum & Inertia Gravity Friction Pressure Simple Machines Mechanical Advantage

11 END OF COURSE TEST!! 7th grade science students will take a NC Final Exam at the end of the year

12 Classroom Expectations - Science
Enter class & copy assignment from board into agenda Place homework & agenda out on corner of desk to be checked Begin warm-up (in Interactive Notebook) Take all notes that teacher writes Participate productively in whole class discussions & collaborative groups Keep Interactive Notebook up to date – all pages labeled appropriately with correct classwork on each Notebook will count for 35% informal grade at end of each quarter!! 13 Grading for Science 65% Formal = Tests/Quizzes/Projects
35% Informal = Homework, Warm-ups, Classwork (some graded for accuracy, some for completion) All grades are out of 100 points

14 LATE WORK Late work receives a 0 initially
To turn in late work that has been completed, student will show me during HW check time at the beginning of next class OR put work in “LATE WORK TURN-IN” tray at back of classroom It will be entered into Power School as a 60% & placed back in “RETURN” tray to be picked up Late work will “snowball”, so complete assignments nightly! There will almost ALWAYS be homework in BOTH subjects! At the end of the quarter, all 0’s will be changed to 50’s as per CMS policy

15 CMS NEW Grading Scale! A 89 – 80 B 79 – 70 C 69 – 60 D 59 – 0 F

16 Re-test Policy ->79 (High C)
CMS & CHMS policy states that students who score below an 80% on a test are eligible to take a re-test and earn up to a 79% Date & time will be set by the math/science department Students must do the following before being allowed to re-test: Get test signed by parent Make test corrections Attend one tutoring session

17 Absences If a student is absent, please check my website to see posted assignments and complete anything that can be done from home. Student should get worksheets/notes sheets upon return. They should copy any missed notes from a classmate. There is a running list of what belongs on each page of the Science Interactive Notebook posted on my Wiki page. Science only meets every other day & there is a great deal of content to cover in both Math I & Science, so good attendance is key!

19 Math I - Calculators Must have TI-83 Plus, TI-84, TI- 84 Plus, or TI – 84 Silver Edition! If calculator cannot be purchased, please have your child see me for a calculator sign-out sheet, they may use a CHMS school calculator for the year

20 Textbooks Math I – Prentice Hall
1book per student, no class set, may leave book at home until year end Consumable workbook for homework assignments Science – McDougal-Littell 1 book per student to take home and leave at home until year end

21 What you can do to help your child be successful…
Check your child’s agenda nightly and make them physically show you the completed homework Check wiki site for info on nightly homework assignments & upcoming tests/quizzes Utilize Power School & let your child view their assignments/grades as well Contact Ms. Dedrick via with any questions on assignments, grades, child’s progress, etc.
