3 AGENDA Hybridization of Cloud Applications
Complex Cloud Integration Challenges Role of Documentation in Simplifying Integrations Impact of Documentation on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Contribution of Documentation to Revenue and Return on Investment (ROI) © 2016, STC INDIA CHAPTER 3

4 KEY OBJECTIVES Understand the importance of developer documentation in the Cloud world. Justify why organizations should invest more in developer documentation. Describe how effective developer documentation can save an organization’s costs. Explain how developer documentation can be critical to a Cloud vendor’s revenue. Demonstrate how technical writers are redefining developer documentation. © 2016, STC INDIA CHAPTER 4

6 SYSTEM INTEGRATION - A BIG CHALLENGE
With a wide range of Cloud software and hardware available, users get to pick and choose what is best for them. Example: An enterprise can deploy an on-premise private cloud to host sensitive or critical workloads, but use a third-party public cloud provider, such as Google Compute Engine, to host less-critical resources, such as test and development workloads. A Cloud containing PaaS and SaaS from different vendors (which is the most common scenario) presents significant challenges in integration. As more features are added, the integration gets more complex. Image Source: © 2016, STC INDIA CHAPTER 6 6

SOLUTION: INVEST IN DEVELOPER DOCUMENTATION © 2016, STC INDIA CHAPTER 8

9 CHANGE IN DOCUMENTATION FOCUS…
Intuitive User Interface Every major software/hardware provider now has a wide range of solutions on the Cloud. Cloud has everything…Word processing applications (Office 365) to personal data storage (Dropbox) to complex enterprise applications. However, the rapid shift from on-premise applications to a hybrid mix of SaaS and on-premise applications has introduced big challenges for organizations attempting to simplify enterprise application integration. 10 DEVELOPER DOCUMENTATION IS THE KEY…
Ease of Integration Give Developers What They Want No “Lift and Shift” Without Documentation Total cost of ownership is a combination of the following costs: Startup costs Operational costs Retirement costs If it is Not Documented, it is Not Supported Do It Yourself! Varied Customers, Varied Integrations © 2016, STC INDIA CHAPTER 10 10

17 DEVELOPER DOCUMENTATION: CHALLENGES
Historically, developed and maintained by Development teams. Lacked structural, style, and language quality. Never reached the intended users, though there was a volume of technical information available. © 2016, STC INDIA CHAPTER 17
