By the 1890’s European nations had spent millions preparing for war Glorifying Military Power Keeping a large standing army prepared for war Arms race for military technology (who can be bigger, better, faster, & stronger than other nations)

Quest for colonies almost always led to war Imperialism led to rivalry and mistrust amongst European nations – especially Germany
