The Enhancement of the Public Defender’s Mandate
As a result of the amendments made to the organic law on the Public Defender of Georgia, the Public Defender nominates two candidates for the membership on the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster to the Parliament of Georgia; 2013 According to the law on Legal Aid, the Public Defender nominates three members of the Legal Aid Council; 2013 The Public Defender's institution has been granted "A" status, meaning full compliance of the institution with the UN Paris Principles. As a result, the Public Defender of Georgia has the right to take part in the work of the national human rights institutions at the international and regional levels with the right to vote.

The Enhancement of the Public Defender’s Mandate
2014 – According to the law of Georgia on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination, the Public Defender of Georgia monitors issues regarding elimination of discrimination and ensuring equality; According to the paragraph 2 of the Article 33 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Public Defender of Georgia monitors the popularization, protection and implementation of the Convention in Georgia; - The Public Defender and the members of the Special Preventive Group with the prior written consent of the Public Defender are authorized to take photos in penitentiary establishments with the consent of accused/ convicts.

In 2014 was established: The Department of Human Rights’ Protection in Defense The Public Defender of Georgia is one of the first among the world’s Ombudsman institutions, who for the purposes of monitoring the situation on the ground, visited Georgian military servicemen participating in the Resolute Support mission in Kabul, Afghanistan. In 2015 was established: The Department of International Relations, Project Management and Civic Education; The Human Rights Academy In 2017 was established: The Division of Management and Development of Human Resources

In 2014 was established International Advisory Board The creation of International Advisory Board was a part of strategic plan of action of the Public Defender for 2013. The aim of the Board is a strengthening of the protection of Human rights in Georgia and determining of the priorities and perspectives in this field. The members of the international advisory board are: - Aage Borchgrevink - Advisor, Norwegian Helsinki Committee; - Jorgen Johansen - Conflict and cooperation expert; - Virginia Dandan - UN Independent Expert on Human Rights and International Solidarity; - Maina Kiai - Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association: Eva Pastrana - "HELP in 28" Coordinator

Issues connected with the people living in the occupied territories and with the conflict -affected population Since one of the priorities of the Public Defender is the examination of the rights of conflict - affected population, promotion of confidence-building and raising awareness about human rights in these regions In 2014, the Ossetian Forum, a consultative council, was set up at the Office of Public Defender; In , Strategy of the Office of Public Defender was elaborated as well as Action Plan; In , 11 special reports and 3 bulletins were elaborated and issued; In , 11 meetings were held with the representatives of the Abkhazian civil society on the highly topical issues in the field of human rights; In , 3 trainings were held regarding various issues of human rights targeted towards conflict-affected persons ; The Public Defender’s web-site is also available in Abkhazian language
