1 “Putting a Face to the Name...”
Job Interviews!!! “Putting a Face to the Name...”

2 The Origin of Job Interviews:

3 What is the purpose of job interviews?
To assess whether or not you are suitable for the job For both parties to see if the employment relationship is “a good fit” To formally meet face to face To present your qualifications that make you the best person for their job So the potential employer can share information about the position in question

4 What to Know: Yourself: Work/Volunteer History
Strengths and Weaknesses Passion and Direction

5 What to Know: The Company: What they do How they do it
Why people work there

6 What to Know: The Position: Title Function Scope

7 GET SET!!! Knowing yourself is the best way you can sell yourself. On a sheet of paper write three things that make you AWESOME! On the other half of the page write one or two things you could do better at. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help employers understand what you’ll bring to the company.

8 It’s All About Spin!!! Making a Weakness into a Point of Growth:
Step One: What are your “weaknesses”? Tardiness Anxiety Lack of Experience Disorganization Communication Skills

9 Win with Spin!!! “I have recently been developing my organizational skills and would like to continue to do so…” “In past employment situations I have learned the importance of time management…” “When I am excited about something I tend to feel some anxiety…” “I have learned the importance of consistent attendance…” “I am learning to effectively communicate my thoughts, feelings, and needs…”

10 Great Work! Remember: Like most things, interviews get easier with practice It is natural to be nervous for an interview; everyone else applying is also nervous! You will not get every position you apply for or that you interview for. The more you apply and the more interviews you attend, the more likely you are to being hired. Being turned down after an interview is a great opportunity to receive feedback which will assist you in future interviews.

11 Good Luck!
