1 Components of a Story

2 Mood Mood- The feelings that are created for in a story by the writer. The reader will then experience these emotions as they read.

3 Tone the way in which the words are stated by the author that reflects the attitude they have towards the subject they are writing about.

4 Pace how quickly or slowly a story goes.

5 Setting the general location and historical time in which the action of a story occurs.

6 Plot the main action and events that relate to and support the main plot.

7 Rising Action the events that lead up to the climax of the story. The author uses this to build excitement up for the reader.

8 Conflict - the struggle that takes place that brings about the action in the story. It can be internal (with in a character) or external (between a character and outside forces.)

9 Climax the most decisive or crucial moment of the story. This is the turning point or event that determines the outcome.

10 Falling Action this occurs after the climax of the story and leads to the resolution.

11 Resolution the point in the story where the conflict is resolved. This usually occurs at the very end and establishes how things will be different from this point forward.
