Narrative Poetry Narrative poetry is a form of poetry that tells a story, often making use of the voices of a narrator and characters as well.

Plot Review Exposition: characters, setting,
Conflict: between two opposing characters or forces Rising Action: developing conflict Climax: Most exciting moment, turning point Falling Action: conflicts are resolved Resolution: reasonable ending

“John Lennon” Who are the different characters involved in this poem?
What is the setting? Draw and fill out a plot diagram for the poem. Include at least two events within the rising action. What is the theme of the poem?

“Domestic Work, 1937” Who is the main character?
Summarize the story being told in the poem in 2-4 sentences. Find two examples of personification. What is the theme of the poem?

“Deer Hit” Paraphrase each stanza on the poem.
Locate one example of a metaphor. Locate one example of onomatopoeia. Locate one example of simile. Locate three examples of imagery. What is the attitude/tone in the poem? How do you know this? Give examples. Does a shift occur in the poem? If so, when? What is the theme of the poem?

Storyboard Summarize each aspect of the plot of one of the poems.
Exposition Rising Action (2) Climax Falling Action Resolution Draw and color pictures to correspond with each. The final result will read like a children’s story
