1 The use of a Dashboard in a Foundation School
Lara Raworth Foundation School Administrator West Midlands North Foundation School

2 INTRODUCTION – WHY DID WE NEED A DASHBOARD
Jan 2016 – Discussion at FPMG regarding the introduction of quality assurance metrics of training posts and what they might be. Indications at that time were that HEE were going to decide on quality standards for a dashboard to be in place by August 2016. It was felt that the School needed a snapshot tool to be able to identify trends until a formal dashboard had been agreed and implemented.

3 PROPOSED METRICS Percentage of first CS meetings in first 2 weeks of post (might need to look secondarily at those not done by 4 weeks if figure is high) Percentage of CSR reports completed prior to 2 weeks after end of post Percentage of ESR reports completed prior to 2 weeks after end of post Percentage of posts not recommended in JEST Percentage of posts with a patient safety flag in JEST (2 or less) Percentage of posts with a clinical supervision flag in JEST (2 or less) Number of PSG tickets completed (as a percentage of 3x number of trainees)

4 % Posts not recommended in JEST % Posts with patient safety concerns
AGREED METRICS % Clinical Supervisor Reports completed within 4 weeks of the end of placement. % Posts not recommended in JEST % Posts with patient safety concerns % Placement Supervision Group forms completed (3 per trainee)

5 WHY? It was agreed that those 4 metrics gave an overall measure of the safety, enjoyment and supervision quality of foundation training posts. All of the metrics can be reasonably expected to be done every 4 months.

CONCLUSIONS Further agreement to add an additional 5th metric to the dashboard i.e. % posts which appear in the bottom 20 on JEST – will be available from April 2017. Although the use of the dashboard may become redundant if HEE implement their version, West Midlands North is till very committed to continue to use this version Rolled out to the other 2 Schools within the West Midlands.
