You will meet author, T.A. Barron on Monday morning! In your Interactive Notebook on page 10R, write at least five questions you would like to ask the author. In your Interactive Notebook on page 11L, title your next assignment A Visit With T.A. Barron. Be sure to use all of your “reporter” listening/writing skills to hear & record as much information as possible about this visit. You must write down at least two questions asked by the audience during his Q & A session. You must also record his response by summarizing what he said in complete sentences.

Journal #6:Who is your favorite author?
You will be asked to complete a project on your favorite author soon. Think about the literature you have read. Who is your favorite author and why? In a paragraph or two, identify your favorite author and genre of literature. Explain why you enjoy reading his/her writing using vocabulary appropriate for this task (Ex: character, plot, theme, imagery, conflict, rhythm, rhyme, text features etc.).

Mentors and Me- A Preview!
They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. Your selected mentor author, ___(author’s name)_____, will be the recipient of a very distinguished writing award. You have been chosen to speak at the ceremony honoring ___(author’s name)_____. You have been asked to create and present an original text imitating the style of your mentor author. You will share your original text and a multimedia presentation demonstrating the impact of the mentor author on your writing. To complete your task, choose a mentor author. Read and analyze at least two texts from the selected author to identify elements of the author’s craft and style. Select three specific craft and/or style elements to be used in creating an original text. Develop a publishable copy of your text incorporating the three identified elements. Create a multi-media presentation to demonstrate the impact of the mentor author on your writing. Be ready to present your work for the ceremony.
