The White Man’s Burden First, with a partner, read and analyze The White Man’s Burden by Rudyard Kipling. Think about the following questions: What is “the white man’s burden,” according to Kipling? Do you think Kipling is being serious or satirical (sarcastic)? How do you know? What part of the poem stands out to you the most? What part of the poem do you not quite get? Are any of these attitudes still present in society today? Would these kind of views be accepted in modern times? Let’s discuss it together! Now, on a separate sheet, you are going to write your own “Burden” poem: Must be at least 20 lines suggested 4 lines, 5 stanzas (verses) Each line must have at least 4 words This will be a daily grade and is due either at the end of class or first thing tomorrow!
