Mexican immigrants benefitted from living in the Western Hemisphere, and weren’t subject to the 2% quota placed on other groups.

3. Scopes Trial (1925) The issue was over whether evolution could be taught in the public schools of Tennessee. John Scopes lost the case, was fined $100, but the case was later overturned. It ultimately became the basis for allowing for the teaching of evolution in public schools.

3. Jazz An American style of music that developed from ragtime and that uses syncopated rhythms and improvisation.

4. Blues A soulful style of music that evolved from African American spirituals.

5. Shuffle Along The first musical written, produced, and performed by African Americans.

6. NAACP The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People This organization worked against segregation and discrimination against African Americans.

7. UNIA Universal Negro Improvement Association
It’s basic aim was to promote black pride and unity.
