2 HRW Fundraising 100% independently funded, no government money
Major donor fundraising: about 120 donors giving US$100K+ p.a. = approx. one third of total budget (FY17) Highlight every year: over 20 annual fundraising dinners around the globe, steadily growing * London Film Festival benefit opening last night (March 7)

3 ANNUAL DINNERS FY17: 23 dinners in 13 countries across 4 continents, about 7,700 guests in total, raising US$18 million Amsterdam Beirut Berlin Brussels Chicago Frankfurt Geneva London Los Angeles Melbourne Miami Munich New York Oslo Paris San Francisco Santa Barbara Silicon Valley Stockholm Sydney Tokyo Toronto Zurich

4 Online Dinner Pages Event registration pages to buy tickets and tables, complemented by event donation pages so that donors who cannot attend still can give towards the dinner Ten currencies (AUD, BRL, CAD, CHF, EUR, GBP, JPY, NOK, SEK, USD) processed through different payment gateways into more than a dozen bank accounts worldwide A few cities use static pages, i.e. not collecting money online

11 PAGE BUILDING In-house designer creates banners, Development Operations provide template (built by vendor), cities provide updated content We build, test, and publish pages, work with webteam for user-friendly URL Cities receive notification s and online payments directly into their bank account

12 CHALLENGES I Page building: special characters in different languages, translations of form blocks Refunds: for some gateways through EN, for others not possible Different requirements for different locales: UK Gift Aid, URL sharing (France), free tickets (Germany) Failed transactions

13 CHALLENGES II Browser/mobile compatibility
Receipts: only for donation pages available, limits in customising (e.g. date formatting) Notification s do not contain ticket/table details Different donor behaviour across the globe: Giving large amounts online by credit card is not universally accepted

14 EXAMPLE: GERMANY Dinners in Munich (November), Frankfurt (March) and Berlin (April) Registration + Donation + Decline page per event Many donors prefer not to pay by credit card and especially not online Wire transfers or direct debit are most common payment methods

15 Germany: CHALLENGE Currently no direct debit set up for German Euros
Legal requirement: free attendance must be possible German colleagues want guests to register online so they can plan their dinner incl. seating, online check- in Search for a solution to move registration process from multiple sources to online only while allowing guests to pay in other ways than with credit card
