Undergraduate Program Equipment Grants
Who can apply for the Grant? Grant application must be submitted by the faculty member(s) responsible for the project What is funded by the Grant? Funds used to fund equipment and supplies for Senior projects, Undergraduate HVAC training labs, or 2 year technical school projects Computer hardware and software not funded University overhead and faculty or student salaries will not be funded.

What is the Grant ? ASHRAE Undergraduate Program Equipment Grants provides grants to engineering, technical and architectural schools worldwide with the goal of increasing student knowledge, learning and awareness of the HVAC&R industry through the design and construction of senior projects. Grants are to be used to fund equipment and supplies for senior projects, 2-year technical school projects and undergraduate training HVAC labs that focus on ASHRAE-related topics. The intent is to provide an overview of the Grants – estimate is 3-4 minutes

What is the Grant? Grants are funded up to $5,000. Approximately 35 grants are awarded annually. Funding from other sources is highly encouraged but not required.

What is the application process for the Senior Undergraduate Grant? Download application from: Select “save as” and complete the application on line Return application electronically to Katie Thomson, in Microsoft Word Format by December 15. What makes a Grants Application Successful? Has an ASHRAE-related topic Has a well stated purpose Engages many students and contributes to the broader learning experience of many students. A senior design project might engage 5 students A senior design project for future use in HVAC teaching labs will reach hundreds of students is better Description should not be overly technical Materials list and budgeted amount Does not exceed $5,000 Include any equipment donations, financial support and mentor support from local industry and local ASHRAE chapter Application filed on time. Late applications will not be accepted. Bonus points for early submission

What Dates do I need to know of for Grants? Applications are due December 15th Applicants will receive notification after the winter meeting, usually in late February An unaccepted project proposal may be revised and re-submitted the following year. Funds for successful Grant applications are available after August 2nd.

What are the responsibilities of Grant Recipients? Any funded project not completed (as indicated by non-receipt of a mid-year progress or final report) will result in the removal of the school from consideration for future grants. A video of the grant project will be expected with the final report. Video will be a minimum of two minutes, max 5 minutes

How can SA Chairs help promote the Grants? blast to schools in the area with student branches (faculty) reach out to schools with applicable programs (Seek out schools and faculty who should be applying) grant recipients to do poster sessions or “table top” at CRC & Chapter
