OBJ: Given notes and activity sheet SWBAT explain how water differs from land in its ability to heat and cool the atmosphere with 70% accuracy. DN: Hand-in Heating & Cooling of Land & Water Lab (College Style; including data table, graph, abstract form) Construct double line Temperature vs. Month graph for New York and Bismarck. ACT: Introduction to Coastal vs. Inland Climates for Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Complete HCLW Activity Sheet questions; Review Results HW: Complete Heat & Cooling of Land & Water Lab (due tomorrow); Work on Meteorology Activity Sheets; Weather Exam, Oct 29; Interim Exam, Nov 6 (10%)

Important Lesson Notes
Land (sand): heats up and cools Fast; low specific heat- little energy needed to raise land temperature Water (ocean): heats up and cools Slowly; high specific heat- much energy to raise water temperature Dark: heats up fast (absorbs heat energy) Light: cools (reflects heat energy) Smooth surfaces: cools (reflects heat energy) Rough surfaces: heats up (absorbs heat energy)
