1 L’imparfait Date

2 SWBAT form the imperfect and past tenses and differentiate between the two in order to act out and present a story in these tenses.

3 Le Passe compose: What happened at one point in time.

4 To form this tense, let’s use monter with je as our example:
Decide if your verb takes etre or avoir. monter- être Place your subject next to the form of etre or avoir that fits it Je suis Next, make monter into a past participle - monté

5 So our final product is je suis monté
Which means, I went up. At ONE point in time.

6 Now, let’s review the imperfect
Now, let’s review the imperfect. This tense means « used to » or « was in the process of » We’re going to use monter again. To form this tense, find the nous form montons Chop off the ons = mont add on the ending for je - aid je montais (I was going up)

7 What were those endings again?
Je - ais tu - ais il - ait nous - ions vous - iez ils - aient

8 The Only verb that does not follow this pattern is être.
j’étais tu étais il était nous étions vous étiez ils étaient

9 Verbs you will only see in the imperfect:
être porter aimer

10 Remember, make a verb imperfect if you want to express:
what was going on description emotion Otherwise, use the past.

11 You will see the following pictures
You will see the following pictures. For each one, create a sentence that states (according to you) a.) what was in the process of happening when the action occured and b.) the acion that occurred. Il allait au cinéma quand Luc a mangé le gateau entier.
