3. Senior Year Enrollment
We will be pre-enrolling shortly after we come back from spring break.
Pre-enrollment will be independent and online (3rd year for this)
Dual Credit Courses
Must meet minimum requirements (Accuplacer, ACT)
Cost is approximately $95 per credit hour plus cost of book in some classes (not all).
Dual Credit course are not for everyone
Make sure that the minimum graduation requirements have been met (students obligation)

Many programs allow you to earn an associates degree along with your certification.
Most credits will transfer to a 4 year university. It is best to check with individual universities to make sure the credits you are taking will transfer.

More personal experience with closer relationships to faculty.
More diversified campus life.

12. Readiness Tests Accuplacer
Used as an admission and placement tool for Community Colleges and Technical schools.
Juniors who indicated during pre-enrollment that they wish to take dual credit courses will have the opportunity to take this assessment during school hours.
Students may retake the Accuplacer free of charge upon request.
Students can retake the Acculplacer two times in a school year.

13. Readiness Tests
ACT/SAT – required for admissions to 4 year universities.
Vocational schools and community colleges also use these tests to determine course placement and scholarships.
The next ACT will be administered on April 8th. The registration deadline is Friday, March 3rd and you can register with an additional fee until March 17th. It will be administered here in Lakin
For most students the SAT is not necessary. If a student wishes to take the SAT it is available through Garden City High School

Most universities have an application fee ($30-$50) so be selective
Community colleges and technical schools often don’t charge.
Schools won’t offer scholarships without an application on file
Be in contact with admissions and financial aid offices of schools being considered.

Be organized
Challenge yourself in classes.
Be active in school groups and organizations.
Begin online scholarship searches.
Start creating a resume of activities, awards, honors, work experience, community activities, etc.

Be a good person.

22. Other Info
In October of 2017 you can begin filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. FAFSA. This is an important part of financial aid. The deadline in Kansas is April 1. Some schools have earlier deadlines.
I will have a Scholarship/FAFSA Night for seniors and their parents in the Fall. The date will be determined later. I encourage all to attend.
