3 Flood legend Flood legend can be found in the folklore of many places like the Middle East, India, china, Australia, Southern Asia, The Americas. Flood Legends appeared in many cultures; Mesopotamia, India, Greek, China. In the sixth century B.C, in India there was a legend about flood. It was a story of “Manu” (meaning man) who was warned by a fish that there would be flood. So he built a boat and saved himself.

4 In Greek mythology, the flood was first mentioned by the poet “Pinder” in the fifth century.
The best known flood legend had its origin among the people of ancient Mesopotamia in the Tigris, Euphrates river valley. The Mesopotamia flood legend appeared in the “Epic of Gilgamesh”. In China, another flood legend about a savior-hero named Yu The Great, the tamer of the flood, who successfully dredged the land to provide outlets to the sea for the water.

It was one of the most powerful natural disasters of the 1900s. The flood began when heavy rains pounded the central basin of the Mississippi. Property damage was estimated at 350 million dollars.
