ISSUE 5 School Admissions for September 2018 Admission information is available here: Unfortunately, existing children in the Nursery Class do not automatically have a place so please apply through Oxfordshire County Council, if you wish your child to join us in Reception in 2018. Supporting Children with Emotional Needs From time to time, some children require extra support to deal with events that cause them distress. As a school we are keen to support any child who requires this. Recently, Mrs Skeels has completed ELSA(Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) training. This intense training has provided her with skills which can be used to support children facing complex behaviour or emotional difficulties or those who may be separated from a parent e.g. detachment within the armed forces. If you feel that your child would benefit from this support, please do complete a form. This can be collected from the office or downloaded from the documents section of the website. Didcot Gospel Choir Concert 9th December Mr Mark Stanley, musical director of the gospel choir, has invited the school to contribute to this special Christmas concert, in the Parish Hall. Please look out for letters in book bags (Chestnut-Hawthorn). Mr Stanley will be visiting the school to work with the children. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Air Ambulance appeal, whilst monies from refreshments will go to FOBS. The concerts are always extremely enjoyable so please do support if you can, at this busy time of the year. Young Voices 8th January 2018 Mrs Tanner is busy rehearsing the songs for the Young Voices concert, at Genting Arena. If you haven’t returned your slip, please do so because we will be confirming the coach very soon. Cycle Training Some of the Year 6 class are currently undertaking their cycle training. I am extremely pleased that we are able to offer this again and my thanks go to Jessicca Brownhill and… for volunteering for this. Do look out for the children on a Thursday afternoon. . ISSUE 5 Meet Your Staff Team Over the next few issues, we would like to share profiles of the staff who care for your children. We thought this would tell you a bit about us. Your Headteacher I have been headteacher since 2013 and felt very privileged to work with many amazing staff throughout the school. I have been teaching since 1990 and held a variety of posts, including senior leadership positions. I continue to enjoy learning and encourage this in children. I have been married for 27 years and have two sons; Samuel whom many of you know and Joshua who has entered the scary world of work as an engineering apprentice. As a family, we enjoy walking in the countryside and days out together. Joshua and I sing in a local church choir. I have lived in Oxfordshire for the last 17 years and love the opportunities it has to offer. Oxford Road Thank you for your patience with the lack of parking. Queuing traffic and heavy vehicles will make this a challenging period for us all. Where it is possible, I would ask families to try either walking to school, car sharing or parking further away. Safer parking is available at the Parish Hall Car Park and is only a few minutes walk along the footpath by Littleworth Road. Winter Uniform Now that the days are colder, please ensure that your child has the correct winter uniform. Children may still wear trousers/shorts/skirts but shirts and ties are expected in Key Stage 2(Maple, Ash, Sycamore and Hawthorn) The children are being encouraged to maintain a smart appearance during the day and many of them take a great pride in their appearance. Please see Ali Kitchener for any good quality used uniform via the FOBs Facebook page. Sporting Events: . Benson C of E School, Oxford Road, Benson, Wallingford, OX10 6LX. Tel:
