The only materials you need for this section of the unit is a map of Italy (provided in the presentation), a menu and the story of Romulus and Remus (see me if you need a copy). Do you think it was easier for the Romans to travel by land or sea? Who has a similar geography to Rome and the Italian Peninsula?

Climate The Geography of Italy made traveling across land difficult, but assisted in making their civilization prosper. One way they prospered was due to their climate... Warm, dry summers and mild, rainy winters= wide variety of crops i.e Grains, citrus fruits, grapes, and olives

Menu Activity Pretend you are from Rome, what would you eat off of the menu? On the back of your paper, write one item from each of the categories that you would eat

Menu Activity Where is there evidence that they had to ..
Fish for their food? Grow their food? Hunt for their food? Domesticate animals? Where is there evidence of Rome's climate in the menu?

Menu Activity Continued
Romans took a full day to prepare their meals. Therefore, by the time they hunted, collected or fished for their food and then prepared it... they typically only had time to eat once a day. Do you think the poor in Rome would have access to all of these?
