“Thou Shalt Commit Adultery”
The Wicked Bible In 1631 a reprint of the King James Bible was made, but it contained an error in Exodus 20:14 and read, “Thou shalt commit adultery”. It became known as the “Wicked Bible”. 1,000 Bibles were published before the error was discovered. The printers were fined 300 pounds (a huge sum in those days) King Charles I ordered the Bibles destroyed. Today, only 11 are known to exist worldwide; one at the New York Public Library, though it is almost never displayed. Exodus 20:14 “Thou Shalt Commit Adultery” Published 1631

The Wicked Bible Redux You “shall not commit adultery” is still rejected (Romans 13:9) Redux – Brought Back, revived The way people manipulate and take license with God’s word today you would think every Bible is “wicked”. For example: “You shall not commit adultery” Still Rejected (Romans 13:8-10), “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Note: This command very often rejected in MDR (cf. Matthew 19:9; Romans 7:1-3)

The Wicked Bible Redux You “shall not commit adultery” is still rejected (Romans 13:9) “Flee fornication” is not obeyed! (1 Corinthians 6:18) (1 Corinthians 6:18-20), “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.” Sexual immorality is viewed as moral in our society. (Common to live together before or in place of marriage) Homosexuality is gaining wider acceptance. (1 Corinthians 6:8-10), “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” Some have audacity to claim homosexuality is approved of in scripture, thus creating their own Wicked Bible…

The Wicked Bible Redux You “shall not commit adultery” is still rejected (Romans 13:9) “Flee fornication” is not obeyed! (1 Corinthians 6:18) “He who believes and is baptized will be saved” is rejected (Mark 16:16) (Mark 16:15-16), “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.’” The Bible says that the sinner who “will be saved” is the one who believes and is baptized. Many say it should be reprinted to read, “He who believes is saved and will be baptized”. That’s a big difference! Further examples could be given where men have changed God’s word… Ex: Irony of Reader’s Digest Condensed version of the Bible left out Revelation 22:18-19, “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

CONCLUSION Every doctrine that changes what the word of God says is “wicked” because it destroys souls 2 Peter 3:16 (2 Peter 3:15-16), “…consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.” It is wicked to twist the Scriptures.
