1 Pick up # 9 in back & do it now. I will collect it in 10 minutes
Use your memory, text and/or binder DO NOT use each other-do your own work. Cover your paper so you don’t tempt someone to cheat please. Update your Table of Contents and Agenda Agenda –see calendar on white board 11/3/16 TOC #7 F,W & P practice problems #8 What do Newton’s Law Tell Us About Our Creator #9 F, W and P Vocabulary Check Up

2 #8 What do Newton’s Law’s Tell Us About Our Creator?
Title, Heading and # a sheet of notebook paper. Find then Write Romans 1:20 then Hide it again. Make a list of words or phrases that come to min from the scripture that describe God’s Nature Find Romans 1:20

3 But the basic reality of God is plain enough
But the basic reality of God is plain enough. Open your eyes and there it is! By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can’t see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being. So nobody has a good excuse.  Romans 1:20 MSG 4. Use one of Newton’s Laws to explain what the writer of Romans is talking about in 1:20

4 Pick up Notes in back please
Do the back of the first page on #7 NOW-yes NOW… Binder, book and calculator out on your desk.

5 How do machines make doing work easier?
Chapter Introduction

6 Lesson 1 Reading Guide - KC
Work and Power What must happen for work to be done? How does doing work on an object change its energy? How are work and power related? Lesson 1 Reading Guide - KC

7 Lesson 2 Reading Guide - KC
Using Machines What are three ways a machine can make doing work easier? What is mechanical advantage? Why can’t the work done by a machine be greater than the work done on the machine? Lesson 2 Reading Guide - KC

8 Lesson 1 Reading Guide - Vocab
work Power Mechanical advantage Efficiency machine Lesson 1 Reading Guide - Vocab

9 What is work? In science, work is the transfer of energy that occurs when a force makes an object move. A force that does not make an object move does no work. Lesson 1-1

10 Calculating Work The product of force and distance; the unit newton·meter. The newton· meter is also known as the joule (J). Lesson 1-2

11

12 1. For work to be done on an object, the force applied and the motion must be in the same direction.
2. When the force applied and the motion are not in the same direction, work is not being done. So the vertical part of the applied force does no work on the suitcase but the horizontal force does work.

13 3.The work done to lift an object equals the weight of the object multiplied by the distance it is lifted. 4. Work done when you lift an object also increases the object’s energy. Hutchings Photography/Digital Light Source Lesson 1-2

14 Watt is power?! Power is the rate at which work is done.
The unit of power is the watt which is one joule per second. P= W/t Lesson 1-4

15 Lesson 1-4

16 Lesson 1-4

17 What is a machine? A machine is any device that makes doing something easier regardless of if it is simple or complex. Machines do not decrease the amount of work required, they change how work is done. Lesson 2-1

18 The force you apply to a machine is the input force.
The machine changes the input force to an output force. The amount of input force x the distance over which the input force is applied = input work. The McGraw-Hill Companies Lesson 2-1

19 4. Machines convert input work to output work
4.Machines convert input work to output work. (They apply an output force on something and making it move a distance.) 5. When the output force is greater than the input force, the output force acts over a shorter distance( and vice versa.) The McGraw-Hill Companies Lesson 2-1

20 How do machines make work easier to do?
A machine makes work easier by changing: the size of the force, the distance the force acts, or the direction of a force. The McGraw-Hill Companies Lesson 2-2

21 Machines make work easier in three ways:
Lesson 2-2

22 Machines make work easier in three ways:
Lesson 2-2

23 Lesson 2-2

24 What is mechanical advantage?
A machine’s mechanical advantage is the ratio of a machine’s output force to the applied input force and tells you how many times larger or smaller the output force is than the input force. A mechanical advantage greater than 1 means the output force is greater than the input force. Lesson 2-3

25 What is efficiency? The output work done by a machine never exceeds the input work of the machine because friction converts some of the input work to thermal energy so it isn’t usable for work output. Lesson 2-4

26 What is efficiency? The efficiency of a machine is the ratio of the output work to the input work. Because output work is always less than input work, a machine’s efficiency is always less than 100 percent. The efficiency of a machine is increased when a lubricant coats moving parts because ___________________. Lesson 2-4

27 Lesson 2-4

28 Lesson 2-4

29 What do Newton’s Law’s tell us about Our Creator?
Use one or more of Newton’s Laws to explain what the writer of Romans is talking about. Find Romans 1:20 the room then discuss this with your lab group.
