Anaconda plan The Anaconda Plan was a plan made by the union to defeat the Confederacy in the beginning of the civil war. The idea was to take down the rebels by blockading the southern ports and controlling the Mississippi River. General Winfield Scott created the plan at the start of the civil war. In other words, the anaconda plan was a way to cease rebellion and benefit the union by helping them gain power to defeat the confederacy by cutting off sources and materials.

Naval technology Submarines were invented by the Confederates.
Their prototype sinks. Union made sketches. Mounted to a long spar (pole) attached to a small boat, the spar torpedo placed mines in an offensive role.

People to know Matthew Fontaine Maury, known as the “Pathfinder of the Seas,” was a scientist and oceanographer before his work with electric mines during the Civil War. ( May have initiated the Confederate use of electric bombs.) Gabriel Rains experimented first with landmines during the Second Seminole War (1835–1842). Rains was transferred to “river defenses” to apply his inventions in waterways when the confederacy mixed the use of landmines for moral reasons.
