11. Initial Symptoms
Symptoms depend on the type and location of the cancer
Cough may worsen
Sputum may be streaked with blood
May cause wheezing
Collapsed lung
Chest pain

12. Later Symptoms Loss of appetite Weight loss Weakness
Shortness of breath
May spread to the liver, brain, adrenal glands, and bone

13. Diagnosis
X-ray of the chest
Tissue sample of the lungs

14. Treatment Surgery—if the cancer has not spread and is not too large
Radiation therapy —not intended to “cure” but to prolong life
Chemotherapy
