1 AHS Future Schedule and beyond

2 Why a different master schedule?
Current Schedule: 6 periods, 2 semesters, daily advisory New Graduation Requirements for Class of 2021 (current 8th grade students) District waiver for Class of 2019 and 2020 24 credits required by the state Immediate interventions Personalized Pathway Requirements Exploration opportunities ASD Goal – 100% graduation goal

3 In recommending the trimester system, we considered the following . . .
School culture Maximizing student contact time Reducing workload stress for staff and students Relationships between and among staff and students Opportunities for students to succeed, explore Streamlining of processes System of support for all

4 Our Plan Trimester schedule 5 period day 61 minute classes
0.5 credits per trimester, per class 26 credits required to graduate (potential to earn 31 credits in 4 years) Continue to include daily advisory – 31 minutes

5 Benefits of the trimester schedule
More student opportunities to explore        Students have access to more course offerings throughout the year        Flexibility for enrichment and support courses        Reduced workload for students per trimester        Shorter lag time to intervene for failing or struggling students School culture System of support for all

7 August 24-25 Freshman Days August 24:
Family Breakfast, 7:30, AHS Commons “Bobcat Days” with student pictures, purchase of ASB cards, lockers, schedules, purchase yearbook August 25: LINK Crew Assembly, 8:00-12:30, Sam Benn Gym Freshmen will meet their LINK Crew mentors and participate in a class wide activity

8 Activities and Athletics
Nearly 20 sports across three seasons Music and drama ASB, LINK Crew, RAT – advisory and beyond CTSO’s: SkillsUSA, FBLA, FFA 21st Century Before and After School Program includes several clubs: Art, Robotics, Dance, ASL

9 How can families be involved at AHS?
Attend school events Concerts, sporting events, musical, Foodball events Participate in these events: Freshman family breakfast, student conferences (October 18, 19 and January 29, 30) Bobcat Booster Club and/or Music Boosters Mock Interviews (sophomores); Business Week (juniors); Senior Boards (seniors) Field trip and dance chaperones

10 How can you support your student at AHS?
Keep them involved in activities Check Skyward for attendance and grades regularly Utilize the after school program Stay in contact – communicate with the teachers, counselor or administration if there is a concern or question Use the website Encourage appropriate use of school technology
