Following - People Follow People Entry points People Search Newsfeed People Page (About me) You can now follow people from the PEOPLE page itself of people that are following you, or other people's People pages. The reason this is cool is that if you go to your followers list, you'll see stars next to everyone you're NOT following. So it's one-click away from following everyone who is following you! © 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. I’m Following Gives information about all of the things that user is following number of people, Documents*, Sites* Tags Can easily identify all of the things that powers a user’s newsfeed Allows the user to access all of those things within a single click from the newsfeed
7
Following People Following people infrastructure in 2013 is the same as it is in 2010 Information about followed people and “followed by” is stored in the Profile Database The followed person gets notified by if a new follower shows up Three main improvements we introduced in 2013 Integration with Consolidated Feeds Web Part My followers: people can now see who are their followers Following auto-population Only applies for people in your team
8
Following Sites, Usecase
A new entry is created in the Social/FollowedSites folder A new entry is created in the Microfeed/Private folder A new entry is created in Windows Server AppFabric Cache Users get notified by grabbing the information from the cache Social Microfeed Sites Private
9
Sites Users access and control the list of followed sites
You can stop follow sites or reach sites directly. When you follow a site, any microblogs that happen on that site will show up in your newsfeed true only if the Site Conversation Feature is enabled Two options to inject sites to people: Site Promotion (static list managed by the Personal Site Host administrator) Site Suggestion (built on top of user usage and trends – uses Analytics Search)
10
Following Documents Following Documents helps users track and get informed on changes and activities that are happening within a document Every time a document content or its properties change a new system feed gets posted for that document People who are following the document get then notified Important: following a document is not a replacement for SharePoint Alerts
11
Following Document Usecase
A new entry is created in the Social/FollowedDocuments folder A new entry is created in the Microfeed/Private folder A new entry is created in Distributed Cache Users get notified by grabbing the information from the cache Social Microfeed Docs Private
12
SkyDrive - Followed Documents
Users have the ability from Personal Site to access and control the list of followed documents You can stop follow document or open the document directly. When you follow a document, any activity that happen across the document will show up in your newsfeed Documents Suggestion - built on top of user usage and trends, uses Analytics Search
13
Following Tags On top of the 2010 content tagging in 2013 there’s also the ability to tag microblogging posts It uses the profile DB to store followed tags Users can control if broadcast this information in the news feed People use the “#tagName” syntax to tag a specific Microblogging post, or reply By start typing the system takes a look at the MMS Keywords and shows it in the post itself Tags are bounded to the Keywords Term Set Note: tagging something does not imply that the user has started to follow that tag. The more common method for this will likely be clicking the “…” menu in the feed when you see a post with a tag in it, and following from there Might be worth mentioning that #tags are the new default keyword list for both conversations and tagging items in SharePoint.
14
Following Tags Once a tag is followed the user gets notified every time tag is used on content* or in microblogging posts For Microfeed posts, no security trimming is applied For tagging content however, security trimming is applied. Search is used to retrieve an aggregated view of all the content used by a specific tag Tagging microblogging posts is not an integrated experience with the “Tag Cloud” page Tag Cloud keeps showing all the content has been tagged by a specific user It doesn’t report if a tag has been used in a microblogging post It *might* be possible to find all of the tags that a specific user created via Search and refiners (e.g. do a search for #*, navigate to the Conversations vertical, refine by author). * There’s currently a bug so that is if document XYZ gets tagged with #social, you will not see an activity for that.
