1 Lung Cancer Audit to patient Reference Group

2 Aim of the Audit The aim of this audit was to define current practice in both primary care cancer diagnosis and in secondary care management to see if we could identify areas for improvement.

3 Method South Tyneside NHS FT identified all patients diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013. Anonymised practice patient records sent to CCG clinical lead. Data extraction based on the RCGP audit template. 145 people were identified; 5 records were excluded.

4 Analysis Average 0.95/1000 patients (highest 2.2) Male 52.9%
Average age 72 (32-95 variation). 79.3% had identified co-morbidities A third had COPD.

8 Discussion Most referred within 1 or 2 visits
Only diagnosed in early stages 55.7% died within one year, 23.6% died in year two. A third had COPD diagnosed. Scope to improved lung cancer diagnosis in COPD patients with 30-pack year smoking history.
