Many of you may look at this, and think that everything that we have seen this Fall is a positive when it comes to breaking the warm trend. I will show you why this is not true... With such a favorable setup both on the Atlantic and Pacific side, you would think that the Aug/Sept/Oct period would have come in as one of the coldest 3 month periods ever for the US. This is not true. Actually... none of the final August, September, or October numbers came in even as low as the coldest 1/4 months going back to The coolest month was September which was only 29th coolest overall. As a whole, the Aug/Sept/Oct mean US temp came in right around what is average to slightly below average. What I'm trying to say by all this is that although temps were cool this Fall, they could have and should have been so much cooler given the setup. This is yet another sign of the very warm overall cycle that the Northern Hemisphere is currently in.

Note the variance that can occur when comparing years. For example, some areas of the globe have had their warmest years prior to However there is a clear overall global warming trend over the years. Even a very cold year like 1978 shown below was relatively warm globally speaking.

If the rest of November and December goes as I think it will will have a very good shot chance at being the warmest one year period ever for the US.” -SSC-
