Innuitian Mountains The Innuitian Mountains are icy mountains that are in Northern Canada. They can be over 2500m in height. They were formed when the North American plate moved in the Mesozoic era. It is mainly sedimentary rock. The mountains are covered in snow most of the year meaning even the lower areas are frozen. This causes few plants to grow during the short summer. There is very few industry because development is very costly in this area. The few animals that are in the range can be affected by pollution caused by humans.
3
Arctic and Hudson Bay Lowlands
Formed of sedimentary rock. Has features of forests and sub-arctic barrens along with several wetland areas. The Hudson Bay area has water-logged soil dotted with permafrost whereas the Arctic Lowlands is completely covered in it. This makes it difficult for substantial plants to grow. In both areas there is minerals and some natural gases. The Arctic Lowlands are highly susceptible to climate change, as a result glaciers are melting from heat meaning animals are losing their habitats causing endangering and extinction.
4
Western Cordillera The Western Cordillera is a series of mountains running North to South created by the collision of the Pacific and North American plates. The soil is very fertile. Higher in the mountains not much can grow, lower down is mostly grassland and coniferous trees. Industries include forestry, mining and agriculture. Environmental issues present in the Cordillera is loss of habitat caused by agriculture.
5
Interior Plains Formed of sedimentary rock. The Plains is known for having some of the best soil in the world, it is great for growing crops. Many forests and grasses are able to grow. Major industries include mining and agriculture based things. Extracting oil causes water pollution in large amounts and some of the agriculture damages some of the ecosystems.
6
Canadian Shield Formed of igneous and metamorphic rock covered in a thin layer of soil. Some lower areas contain bogs and marshes, although it is mainly covered by boreal forest. Major industries are mining and lumber. Deforestation is a major environmental issue because animals and plants have their habitats and needs for survival destroyed.
7
Great Lake-St.Lawrence Lowlands
Formed of sedimentary rock from the Paleozic era. The Great Lakes lowlands was formed by a glacier that passed through. This area contains the great lakes. Fertile soil meaning many plants can grow including both deciduous and coniferous trees. The main industry is agriculture, although this can harm many ecosystems from loss of habitat and production of greenhouse gases.
8
Appalachians The Appalachians are a series of hills, mountains and valleys that formed 300 million years ago. It has good soil thanks to moderate climate, plant life consits of trees. Main industries are forestry, fishing and mining. Coal mining in the Appalachians destroys ecosystems. The coal mining leads to pollution.
