2 NH Healthy Homes Statewide Strategic Action Plan
First Statewide Plan in the nation Completed in August 2009 with input from partners across the state Prepared by the National Center for Healthy Housing and Tohn Environmental Strategies Healthy Homes Steering Committee is responsible for overseeing & implementing the Statewide Plan Weatherization

3 Project Goal Facilitate collaboration among health, housing, energy organizations to deliver “One Touch” healthy and energy efficient homes treatment through coordinated service delivery and referral.

11 Pilot Efforts Piloted in Manchester and Belknap Merrimack CAP -- > 90 Homes Manchester: asthma, health visiting, lead, housing rehab, Weatherization Belknap-Merrimack: Head Start, Weatherization Strongly embraced by programs Manchester

12 The One-Touch Approach Assess:
Home visitors who are already in the home are cross-trained to spend 15 extra minutes to complete a healthy home and safety assessment check list

Several Strong Partners Manchester Health Department (lead, asthma, tobacco) Southern NH Community Action Program (Mr. Fix-it, Weatherization & Fuel Assistance) MCH Child & Family Services (Pregnant mothers, Parenting Plus, & elderly support) Manchester Housing Initiatives (HUD lead abatement & housing rehab)

14 Home Health and Safety checklist:
second-hand smoke, mold, dust mites lead paint, lead exposure CO Monitors and Smoke Detectors energy efficiency use of pesticides and harsh cleaners clutter that could cause injuries/falls radon or asbestos other poisonings such as prescription drugs

15 Educate Home visitors hand out educational resources to the resident or family while in the home Portable toolbox contains information from partners Flyers, pamphlets, & contact information One touch continued 15

16 Educating Home Visitors
Coordinated with program partners to learn about eligibility requirements, benefits offered Different partners featured at weekly Wx. auditors meetings Continued collaborative efforts by partner meetings – at first monthly, now quarterly

20 Fix Income eligible residents may qualify for weatherization upgrade, HUD lead paint hazard removal Clients referred to programs unknown to them Wx program found alternate sources of leveraged funding Other fixes may include less expensive items such as mattress pads, pillow cases greener house products, smoke alarms or CO monitors 20

22 Building on Successes Finalizing an MOA between partners committing to “One Touch” model Belknap-Merrimack moved to all “One Touch” units with weatherization SNHS looking to expand partnership OEP working toward “One Touch” in all CAP agencies for Wx OEP partnering with NHHFA for Healthy Homes training for all Wx auditors

Expand Healthy Homes Outreach & Education 2-Day Essentials for Healthy Home Practitioners (Winter 2011/ 2012) 1-Day Healthy Homes Opportunities for Energy Auditors (August 2011) 1st Annual NH Healthy Homes Conference (October 13, 2011) Identify funding opportunities for our NH Partners HUD, CDC, EPA, NCHH, ARC, AHEC, HHLPPP, NFPA, USDA, CDBG, FEMA

Implement six additional “One-Touch” Initiatives Laconia, Franklin, Nashua, Rochester, Claremont/Newport, Berlin Develop a smooth data tracking & referral system Move from E-Studio to web-based system

25 Long Term Goals of the Healthy Homes Steering Committee
Increase Healthy Homes policies in place Increase the number of lead safe homes Increase the number of smoke free housing units Decrease the number of asthma hospitalizations and ED visits Decrease the number of children with injuries
