4 VIRTUE (II PET. 1:5) Faith is the foundation (Heb. 11:1; 6; Rom. 10:17; 1:16,17). Virtue means excellency or moral goodness Implies: Courage, Vigor, Strength, Firmness True Christians are to be strong (II Tim 2:1-4)

5 KNOWLEDGE (II PET. 1:5) Knowledge is the key word in II Peter (II Pet. 2:20ff) This was Israel’s problem

6 Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

7 We have to know today (John 8:32)

8 Self-Control (II PET 1:6)
We have to discipline ourselves In our behavior Over sleep Over eat Emotions Fleshly desires We must control ourselves

9 Steadfastness (II PET 1:6)
Patience means Endurance/Perseverance Endurance can be the difference between success and failure Mat 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

10 Satan shows us the short cut or easy way
We are admonished to remain steadfast Psalm 78:7-10 1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

11 Heb 3:14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

12 GODLINESS (II PET. 1:7) Godliness means that we do what God tells us to do Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Tit 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 BROTHERLY KINDNESS (II PET. 1:7)
Phileo: Love for friends Christians are the greatest people in the world (Mat. 5:13-16) We should love the brotherhood (II Pet. 2:17).

14 CHARITY/LOVE (II PET. 1:7)
Agape the supreme love The Love that God has for us (John 3:16) The kind that we should have for all men

15 CONCLUSION (II PET 1:8-13) Benefits V8 Barren means idle
V9-10 Not having these is not a winning decision Election should be sure: no re-count

16 There are three votes for your salvation
God votes for you Satan votes for you You cast the deciding vote
