WHY ARE DREAMS IMPORTANT?
In the mice of men the theme dream is very important, The book takes over a short period of time. this is because John Steinbeck shows how dreams can be so easily made but also so easily be Brocken. The dream also structures the story to what happens next to George and Lennie when they leave Weed.

GEORGE + LENNIES DREAM George and Lennie have a dream that they want to live on a farm, this dreams makes them want to push to succeed the dream. “someday- we’re gonna get the jack together and we’re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an’a cow and some pigs” (pg 16) The quote shows how George has a lot of hope he uses the word “someday” because it shows that he does have hope that one day he will for fill his dream.

However its not only George and Lennie who have dreams, curlys wife has a dream to become an actress, this could be one of the reasons why she looks for attention, even the other ranch workers have dreams to be the cowboy heroes they read about in the magazines.

CANDY Candy also shared the dream with George and Lennie to go live on a farm, he offered to provide the money so that they can all achieve there dream. An’ they give me two hundred an’ fifty dollars ‘cause I los’ my hand. An’ I got fifty more saved up right in the bank, right now. Tha’ s three hundred, and I got fifty more comin’ the end a the month. The quote explains here that candy is willing to give money to be included in Georges and Lennies dream.

In the novel curlys dream is very different to everyone elses. Steinbeck did not mention to much about his dream but he seems to dream for power and to have control over his wife. Dreams give people hope to carry on trying to succeed in life it also encourages them to push themselves as far as they can achieve.

CROOKS DREAM In the Novel crooks dreams for equality he mentions about the past when he was a little child. “I remember when I was a little kid on my old mans chicken ranch. They was always near me, always there. Used to sleep right in the same room, right in the same bed – all three. Had a strawberry patch. Had a alfalfa patch. Used to turn chickens out in the alfalfa on a sunny morning. My brothers’ d set on a fence rail an’ watch’ em – white chickens they was.” “I remember” suggests that when he was little he was treated fairly but as he got older reality kicked in and started to feel segregated.

AMERICAN DREAM At the time dreams weren't that realistic this was because the American dream was to live on a farm, to be there own masters however people had the money but because of the society at the time , they didn’t reach there goals.
