Unit 12: Data Displays - Histograms
3
Vocabulary Histogram – A special kind of bar graph that displays the frequency of data that has been organized into equal intervals; the intervals cover all possible values of data, therefore there are no spaces between the bars of the graph; the horizontal axis is divided into continuous equal intervals.
4
Parts of a Histogram The table shows the heights (in centimeters) of 30 students in Mr. Carlucci’s class. The horizontal axis represents continuous intervals so there are no gaps between the bars
5
Making Histograms The table shows the parking times (in minutes) of twenty cars.
6
Group the data into 5 intervals and display in a histogram.
Making Intervals The time, in minutes, it takes 30 people to drive a certain distance is shown by the data below. Group the data into 5 intervals and display in a histogram. Find the range Divide the range by the number of intervals needed Round up if necessary Starting at the smallest divvy up the data into the intervals

The data shows the time, in minutes, taken by 24 students to complete the Turkey Trot in Rye last fall. Make a histogram with five intervals.
