Rotations
6
Rotations A rotation is when you turn a figure about a point.
7
Triangle ABC is rotated 90⁰ clockwise about the origin.
8
A (- 6, 4) A’ (4, 6) B (1, 3) B’ (3, - 1) C (- 3, - 2) C’ (- 2, 3)
Notice that the x and y switch places. The y value stays the same and the x value becomes the opposite. 90⁰ Clockwise Rotation About the Origin (x, y) (y, -x)
9
Triangle ABC is rotated 180⁰ about the origin.
10
(x, y) (- x, - y) A (- 6, 4) A’ (6, - 4) B (1, 3) B’ (- 1, - 3)
C (- 3, - 2) C’ (3, 2) Notice that the x and y values become the opposite. 180⁰ Rotation About the Origin (x, y) (- x, - y)
11
Triangle ABC is rotated 90⁰ counter clockwise about the origin.
Triangle ABC is rotated 180⁰ about the origin. Triangle ABC is rotated 90⁰ counter clockwise about the origin.
12
A (- 6, 4) A’ (- 4, -6) B (1, 3) B’ (-3, 1) C (- 3, - 2) C’ (2, -3)
Notice that the x and y switch places. The x value stays the same and the y value becomes the opposite. 90 ⁰ Counter Clockwise Rotation About the Origin(270⁰ clockwise) (x, y) ( - y, x)
13
Practice A (2,4), B (-5, 8), C (-3, 7) Rotate triangle ABC around the origin. 90⁰ clockwise 180⁰ 90⁰ counter clockwise
14
Closure Use the rule to write the ordered pairs for rotating triangle ABC 90⁰ clockwise. A (4, 3) B(- 3, 5) C (6,- 4)
