7 Plan from the Beginning
Marriage is not just a human institution but ordained by God. Read Genesis 2 Imagio Dei Male and female Male and female have equal dignity Leave their parents and start their own family One flesh union Procreation is innate Cooperate with God

8 Marriage Defined The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring, has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament between the baptized.

9 What is Marriage? A sacrament that provides graces.
A covenant bond that lasts for a lifetime. Between a man and woman. Sexes are complementary. Sex is an important part of marriage. Getting married implies an openness to life.

10 Marriage Vows Groom: I, (name), take you, (name), to be my wife. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life. Bride: I, (name), take you, (name), to be my husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

11 Characteristics of Marriage
A Christian marriage is an image of the love of God, and therefore it has 4 necessary characteristics: FREE – Complete consent to marry this person. Not pressured to. FAITHFUL- Your life – your whole self and your whole future is given (without conditions) to this person and never to anybody else. TOTAL- I give ALL of me, I do not hold back any part. And I give it forever. FRUITFUL- I am open to what may come from our love, both spiritual and physical fruit. Welcoming of children.

12 The Ends of Marriage Unitive – Permanent and exclusive bonding of male and female. Procreative – Open to life and willing to cooperate with God and his creativity. Implies raising a child as well. *Note a marriage is not creative. Reflects the Trinity “Babies and Bonding” Any deliberate removal of one or both of these or separation of the two is a grave sin.

13 Properties of Marriage
Exclusivity – the total gift of oneself can only be given to a spouse. Indissolubility – Marriage is permanent and stable. Cannot be broken by anyone. (Death ends a marriage)

14 Sins Against Chasity Lust Masturbation Fornication Adultery
Homosexual Acts Pornography Contraception Sterilization Sexual Abuse IVF

15 Lust Deadly Sin Disordered desire or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. “I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye makes you [w]stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you [x]to lose one of the parts of your body, [y]than for your whole body to be thrown into [z]hell. 30 If your right hand makes you[aa]stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you [ab]to lose one of the parts of your body, [ac]than for your whole body to go into [ad]hell.”  DON’T MESS AROUND WITH SIN

16 Masturbation Deliberate stimulation of genital organs to drive sexual pleasure. Gravely disordered CCC 2352

17 Fornication Adultery Cohabitation Sex outside of marriage.

Removes the unitive aspect of marriage

NOT the “Rhythm Method” Uses signs from the woman’s body to know days of fertility. With the proper knowledge couples can determine if they want to achieve a pregnancy or not.

20 Pornography “There is no dignity when the human dimension is eliminated from the person. In short, the problem with pornography is not that it shows too much of the person, but that it shows far too little.” -John Paul II Objectifies human persons Perverts the conjugal act, the total self giving act of love is made into a spectacle. Not procreative Can be an addiction Not just videos or images.
