2 Question Time! When did they come out? Are they mandatory?
How many of them are there? What’s my organisations take on them? What’s more-what’s my organisations commissioners take on them? What’s my take on them?

3 What’s my take on them? Well that’s what this session is all about!
It will deliver a brief history and overview of National Quality Requirements Offer a perspective on what they should mean to all stakeholders, particularly patients Look at YOUR role in them

4 National Quality Requirements
Distilled from ‘Carson Report’ Mandated for providers from Jan 2005 13 QR’s in total-ranging from reporting arrangements through access to patient safety and experience Further guidance published in July 2006

5 Are they mandatory? In a word YES
However, different organisations and commissioners may have had a different take on this Up until now There are a growing number of drivers mandating their achievement

6 Drivers for NQRs Your organisations survival! The tender trap
Health Care Commission ratings Primary Care Foundation (DH) Benchmarking process Media interest Oh yeah! Patient safety and care!!

7 What’s my role in NQRs? It doesn't depend on what you do in your organisation Achievement of NQRs is systemic and should involve everyone in one form or another Unless you understand your organisations approach to, and your role in NQRs-it is very unlikely that they will be achieved and/or sustained

8 Finally They are not just Government targets- they are about the care, quality and safety that we deliver It is about measuring those elements To do this your organisation and you really get to understand your working processes, and what works and what doesn't It will, most likely involve change-in time these changes will bring positive benefits

9 National Quality Requirements
IGNORE THEM AT YOUR PERIL!
