Essential Question: How are decimals apart of our every day life? We use decimals when we deal with money.

5 Key Terms Decimal- A number that uses place value and a decimal point to show part of a whole. Hundredths- One part of one hundred divided into 100 parts. Tenths- One part of one ten divided into 10 parts.

7 Mini-Lesson You are a Money Manager for iTunes. Your job is to know the amount of money made from each song. Your Challenge: What is the dollar amount that is earned from each song?

8 Mini-Lesson iTunes made .4 of a dollar from each One Direction song downloaded. .4 = four tenths Fill in the tenths grid to represent each amount. Be sure to relate 4 tenths to the dollar amount of $.40.

Sharing Time How are decimals related to money? It is very important to do this last part of the workshop. People tend to skip the share period. Never skip the share period. It is the part that brings closure to the math workshop. Just as you opened the workshop, you have to close up the workshop for the day. This is the teachers opportunity to give students real, clear takeaways for the day.
